A Dorchester man charged with breaking into two Wollaston businesses early Wednesday is also a suspect in seven other recent break-ins in the neighborhood, police said.

William Gregorio, 41, is charged with breaking into the Friendly’s restaurant on Hancock Street and Beale Street News. He was arrested when a police dog followed a scent from one of the businesses shortly before 4 a.m.

Officers responded to an alarm at Friendly’s at 3:38 a.m. As they searched the area, they found a glass door had been smashed at Beale Street News, again. Someone smashed the same door at Beale Street News on Monday and stole cash.

When officers found Gregorio, they discovered evidence linking him to the break-ins, Police Capt. John Dougan said.

Dougan said Gregorio is a suspect but he has not been charged in connection with six other break-ins on Jan. 6 at businesses on Beale Street. Glass doors and windows were smashed and money was stolen from three of the stores.

The businesses included Brite Cleaners, Charlie Hair Salon, Paul’s Barbershop, Matthews Jewelers, Kim Marie Hair Salon and Brigham’s.
