KOTTAYAM: St Aloysious Higher Secondary School, Athirampuzha, near here, was rattled on Tuesday after an anonymous caller rang up the police control room here and threatened that the school would be blown off with a bomb shortly.

The information was passed on the school, where students were positioned for the morning assembly then.

Though panic gripped the school and around, the threat turned out to be a hoax later. Cops and sniffer dogs of the Bomb Squad rushed to the school and cordoned off the area after getting information on the threat. All students were evacuated from the area within no time and the school authorities declared holiday owing to the unexpected development.

A thorough search followed in every nook and corner of the school but nothing substantial could be traced out to buttress the threat.

Frightened students and teachers heaved a sigh in the end. So were the cops.

It was found later that the call had emanated from a telephone coin box in the Athirampuzha area itself.

DySP P K Madhu, Eettumanoor CI Parthasarathy Pillai and Kottayam East CI Gireesh P Sarathy and others led the search operations in the school.
