LANCASTER — Authorities say a severed human hand has been discovered near a school in the Antelope Valley.

Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide Detective Louie Aguilera says deputies will continue to search Wednesday morning for a possible victim in the area in Lancaster.

Sheriff's Sgt. Slade Carrizosa says the hand was found before sundown on Tuesday. Deputies and a cadaver dog conducted a search before darkness set in.

Lt. Brian Elias of the Los Angeles County coroner's office says only the hand was found.

The location that it was discovered is by Challenger Middle School.
