UPDATED: Authorities Make Discovery While Searching For Bodies In Augusta

Augusta, GA—Wednesday, investigators surveyed the search area and had cadaver dogs in from Atlanta. Since the dogs alerted officials on a few areas…they brought more resources in Thursday morning.

Thursday, The FBI is in from Atlanta, along with their evidence recovery team. The GBI is there, and of course, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Although investigators still aren’t saying much, they have confirmed that from the tip they were given last week, they’re looking for possibly 2 bodies. The tip came from a different law enforcement agency. Connecticut is a state that’s been thrown around, but there’s no confirmation.

We’re told it may have been a homicide that happened several, maybe even 10, years ago in this area.

Crews started around 6:30 a.m., Thursday morning, and from the looks of it, they could be out here for many days to come.

Officials are clearing the area where some shotgun homes once stood, off Cherry Street, several years ago, carefully examing the area where 2 bodies could be buried.

As of right now, no missing persons reports in the surrounding area match up with the vital information given to the officers from the tipster.

Barclay Bishop will be at the excavation site all day, so stay tuned to WJBF News Channel 6 for the tatest on our evening newscasts.
