Possible break in case of woman missing since 1976

HERCULANEUM, Mo. (AP) — Relatives of a Jefferson County woman missing for 33 years are hopeful for closure after a possible break in the case.

Genevia Adams of Festus was 53 when she disappeared in 1976. She was last seen leaving a Herculaneum bar with a man.

Police reopened the case a few years ago. New leads took them to a 100-acre site on private property in Perry County, near the Mississippi River.

On Friday, authorities searched the land with cadaver dogs, who led them to areas of a sinkhole, indicating there could be human remains.

Herculaneum Police Chief Chris Pigg says he is "pretty confident" the discovery is related to the Adams case, and more searches are planned.
